Cuban-guitarist Javier Suárez Rodríguez is internationally known for his dexterity and expertise on a variety of genres on the guitar. He actively performs in Miami as a multi-style solo professional guitarist, linking the character and sound of Spanish and flamenco guitar in musical genres such as, flamenco rumbas and sevillanas, American classical music, pop, modern, classical, and country.
During his time in Cuba, Javier created the flamenco music trio Jaleos, together with the singer Raúl González Gómez, fusing flamenco music with Cuban and international rhythms. The group later on expanded its format and its repertoire towards an alternative musical approach, mixing genres such as blues, funk, rock, reggae and Cuban rhythms. This group later on received the “Best Fusion Group” award in the Festival Cuerda Viva, Cuba.
Additionally, he has been the co-founder of the Classical Guitar Orchestra A Tempo in Pinar del Río, Cuba, and also the guitar duo Treze Cordas, in Asturias, Spain.
Javier was part of of the hardcore band Médula as lead and rhythm guitarist, with whom he traveled to Ecuador to give concerts in four of the most prominent provinces of that country (Quito, Cuenca, Ibarra and Guayaquil).
In 2018, he entered the Cristina Heeren Flamenco Art Foundation, where he studied Intermediate and Advanced flamenco guitar until 2020, endorsed with said degree. He received classes at the Cristina Heeren Foundation from great flamenco guitar masters such as: Niño de Pura, Paco Cortés, Pedro Sierra and Pedro Barragán.
He has received courses and masterclasses from guitarists such as Rafael Riqueni, Alfredo Lagos, Rafael Rodríguez “El Cabeza”, Juan Ramón Caro, among others.
Currently, he is part of the flamenco and fusion music group “Son Flamenco” together with the singer La Negri and the dancer El Niño Uz, in Miami. Javier has been teaching privately for 11 years.
During his free time, he likes to learn new music on the guitar, go to the beach, exercise, and watching a good movie.
